In this lesson, we explore the ancient practice of asserting dominance by taking and possesing a mans “woman” whether that be his wife, concubine, or daughter. To us this is barbaric but don’t forget we are us now and not them then. This tactic, seen in various biblical accounts, was a way to undermine a leader’s authority and demonstrate power. We examine examples from the stories of Absalom, Reuben, and Adonijah to understand how this played out in Scripture and its significance in the context of control, domination, leadership and authority.
